Long Leads 19th-Ranked Saints to a, 65-44, Win Over Wilmington

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Sophomore guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) scored a game-high 13 points to lead the 19th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a, 65-44, win over Wilmington College today (Sunday, November 28, 2010) in the final game of the Ninth Annual Julie Costello Memorial Classic at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 5-0 and with the loss, the Quakers fall to 2-3.

Thomas More jumped out to a 14-2 lead with 11:45 to play in the first half when freshman guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-pointer.  Wilmington's Olivia Waters then made two free-throws to cut the lead to 14-4 with 11:18 to play in the opening half.  The Saints closed out the half on a 23-10 run to extend the lead to 37-14 at halftime when freshman guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made three-pointer with 2:07 to play in the first half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 13-4 run capped by a lay-up by sophomore guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) to increase the lead to 50-18 with 14:36 to play in the game.  Wilmington used a 26-12 run to cut the lead to 62-44 with 3:19 to play when Jada Brown made two-free-throws, but it wasn't enough as freshman guard Malori Schmidt (Louisville, Ky./Butler) made a three-pointer with 1:22 for the final score of 65-44.

Joining Long in double-figures was Kitchen with 11 points.  Senior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) led the team on the boards with 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) led the team in assists with three.

Long was named the Most Valuable Player of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic, while Kitchen and Dickman were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Thomas More opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday (December 1) when it hosts Grove City College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
