Four players scored in double figures to lift the Saint Vincent College women's basketball team to an 82-69 victory over visiting John Carroll University.
Devin McGrath led the way for Saint Vincent, scoring a career-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds, while Brittany Sedlock also posted a double-double, with 16 points and 15 boards. Melissa Mansur (18 points) and Maria Baroffio (15 points) also scored in double figures, with Baroffio dishing six assists.
The Bearcats got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 14-2 lead just three minutes into play, with McGrath tallying six of the points. Two minutes later, another McGrath jumper pulled SVC ahead 18-4, before the Blue Streaks started to chip away, using a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to seven with 11:51 left in the opening half.
Saint Vincent would bounce right back, and after a three from Baroffio, a lay up from McGrath, and a conventional three-point play from Mansur, the Bearcats saw their lead increase to 43-20 with just under four minutes left in the half. The Bearcats eventually entered the locker room with an 18-point lead, 45-27.
The Bearcats' lead hovered between 15 and 18 points for the first nine minutes of the second frame, before the Blue Streaks mounted a rally going on a 11-0 run, using a pair of three-pointers to cut the SVC lead to 63-53 with 9:09 left in regulation.
The 10-point spread was as close as the game would get, however, as SVC would eventually go up 19, 78-59, on a Baroffio three with 4:01 left to play, and the Bearcats cruised down the stretch.
John Carroll was led on the scoresheet from Emilee Ritchie's 18 points, while Lee Jennings scored 14 and Melissa Spahar 13. Spahar grabbed 11 boards for the double-double.
The Bearcats (3-0) will return to action on Saturday evening, hosting non-conference foe Allegheny College at 6pm in the Carey Center.
