NEWBERG, Ore. – Keisha Gordon scored 20 points, 17 in the first half, and Hannah Munger notched her second double-double in three games with 11 points and 14 rebounds as the George Fox University Bruins downed the Chapman University Panthers 75-57 in a Sunday afternoon women's basketball matinee here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

George Fox, ranked 8th in the NCAA Division III in the WBCA pre-season poll and 10th by D3hoops.com, improved to 3-0 while winning for the sixth time in as many meetings with Chapman, a D-III independent from Orange, Calif.  Three of their clashes have been in NCAA National Tournament first or second-round games, in 2005, 2007, and 2008.  Chapman finished its season-opening trip through the Willamette Valley with a 1-2 record after a win at Linfield College Friday and a loss at Corban University Saturday.

George Fox jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and led 15-7 four-and-a-half minutes into the game following back-to-back three-pointers by Gordon.  The Bruins committed four turnovers and missed four shots over the next four minutes, however, as the Panthers fought back with a 12-2 run, capped by a Stephanie Servin three, to take their only lead of the game at 19-17. 

Answering the challenge, Arianna Mohsenian hit a free throw and a three and Gordon two layups in an 8-0 run as the Bruins regained the lead 25-19 with 8:25 left in the period.  They stretched the advantage to 14 at 41-27 with a minute left on a driving basket by Gordon, and led 41-29 at the break.

Gordon hit 7-12 from the field with three threes for her 17 first-half points and also had eight rebounds.  Mohsenian sank a trio of treys for 10 points as well, her total for the game.  Brandi Hood kept Chapman in the game by coming off the bench to score 11 points and grab seven rebounds.

The Bruins maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, with the Panthers getting no closer than 12 at any time.  A layup by Munger gave the home team its largest lead of 24 points at 66-42 with 6:39 left to play.  The Panthers made a mild 15-5 run late in the period to get within 14 at 71-57 on a three by Casey Gomez with 57 seconds remaining, but it was too little, too late.

Megan Arnoldy added to the Bruins' totals with 16 points, hitting 6-8 from the field and 4-4 from the line, and eight boards as the Bruins out-rebounded the smaller Panthers 48-31.  Munger had eight blocked shots, coming two blocks short of a triple-double, and Mohsenian handed out four assists.

Hood and Simone Ibbotson paced the Panthers, who were held to a .262 shooting percentage (16-61), with 15 points apiece.  Hood led the team with seven boards, all in the first half, while 5-0 point guard Christina Ly had six assists and made five steals as the Panthers forced 24 George Fox turnovers.

NEXT: George Fox hits the road for its next nine games, starting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Concordia University-Portland.  The Bruins do not play at home again until their fourth Northwest Conference contest of the season on Jan. 8 vs. Pacific University ... Chapman plays Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Nebraska Wesleyan University in the Colorado College Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.
