SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Alyssa Schuttenhelm led three Lakeland College players in double figures with 16 points as the Muskies defeated the University of Chicago women's basketball team 70-63 in the championship game of Lakeland's "Play With Grace" Tipoff Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Lakeland (2-1) built a 33-28 halftime lead and maintained the advantage throughout the second period.
Becca Paulson's three-point shot gave the Muskies a double-digit lead, 43-33, with 15:14 left in the game.
Chicago (2-1) then went on an 11-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from Dana Kaplan, that pulled the Maroons to within a point, 45-44, at the 11:10 mark.
Lakeland countered with a 10-1 run to go up 54-44 with 9:04 to go. From that point, the Muskies led by at least four points.
All-tournament team selection Bryanne Halfhill led the Maroons with 13 points, while fellow third-years Taylor Simpson and Meghan Herrick each added 10 points. Simpson also grabbed 12 rebounds to notch her second double-double in three games.
Tournament MVP Mary Dennewitz and Erin Cepa each tallied 15 points for Lakeland.
Chicago returns to action next Saturday when it faces Luther College in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
