In their first game of the season on Tuesday, the Agnes Scott basketball team defeated Atlanta Christian, 75-47 at home.
Arielle Register paced the Scotties with 16 points, seven assists and four steals. Kimberly Reeves recorded ten points, while grabbing nine rebounds.
The Scotties took a 33-24 lead into halftime, holding Atlanta Christian to 19% shooting in the first period.
In the second half, Agnes Scott held a narrow 45-37 lead with less than 13 minutes to play. The Scottie defense toughened over the next seven minutes, holding Atlanta Christian scoreless, while going on a 17-0 run to take a 62-37 lead with six minutes to play.
"I was proud of the total team effort we turned in," Head Coach Tony Ciccone said. "It was a strong performance from our returners and first-years. Everyone made significant contributions."
First-year Lexi Pulice-Farrow chipped in with 12 points. The Scotties held the Chargers to 28% shooting for the game, including 1-for-15 shooting from the three-point arc. Agnes Scott also forced 27 turnovers, while shooting 74% from the free-throw line.
Agnes Scott returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Massachusetts to face Mt. Holyoke in the Seven Sisters Classic. The Scotties will then face Wellesley on Sunday at Mt. Holyoke.
