RALEIGH, N.C. – Jazlyn Gibbs scored a game-high 18 points in Guilford College's 61-55 women's basketball win at Peace College Wednesday night. Gibbs paced four Quakers (1-1) in double-figure scoring to win the Pacers' (0-1) season opener.
Peace held a 28-27 halftime lead and held a 33-31 edge before Guilford reeled off six straight points to take the lead for good. Rookie Gabby Oglesby broke the game's seventh and final tie to give the Quakers the lead for good.
Guilford freshman Morgan King scored 10 points and grabbed a game- and career-high 12 rebounds for her first college double-double. Teammate Brittany Atwater added 11 points and a career-best nine rebounds to help Guilford enjoy a 46-38 rebounding edge. Oglesby finished with 10 points off the bench.
Karissa Herring scored all of her team-high 15 points in the second half for Peace, which managed 33.3 percent shooting from the floor. She also led the Pacers with 11 rebounds.
Guilford hosts Meredith College Saturday (11/20) at 1:00 p.m. in the Quakers' home opener.
