CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season wtih an 86-58 win over Rhodes College on Monday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.  MC had 13 of 15 players score, while Jennifer Wair put up 23 points in the victory.

The Lady Choctaws opened the game on a 12-0 run and jumped out to a 38-21 lead at halftime over the Lynx.

Senior Jalessa Taylor and junior Brigit Taylor joined Wair in double-figures with 12 and 14 points, respectively.  Wair led the team with eight rebounds, while senior Randa Lee topped MC with five assists.

Rhodes was led by Sharwil Bell with 15 points on 5-16 shooting.  Sarah Womack scored 14 points, while Amy Handelman and Jaime Maxey added 11 points apiece.

The Lady Choctaw defense stood tall, holding Rhodes to only 31% (19-61) from the floor and 19% (5-26) from the three-point line.

MC shot 54% (37-68) from the floor and outrebounded the Lynx, 52-28.  The Lady Choctaws also maed 9-12 free throws, paced by Wair going 5-8 from the line.

The Lady Choctaws will play next against Millsaps at 6:00 p.m. in the Golden Dome.
