Roanoke MBB advances in ODAC Tourney with 89-75 win over Ferrum

The Short story: The third-seeded Roanoke College men's basketball team pulled away late Wednesday evening to score an 89-75 victory over visiting Ferrum College in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.  

The Maroons (22-4), ranked No. 19 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, advance to the tournament semifinals to face the University of Lynchburg (seeded No. 7) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center. The ODAC Championship game is set for 2 p.m. Sunday.

How it happened:  
*Roanoke led much of the first half but Ferrum opened a 34-33 edge with just under two minutes left. A 7-0 run put RC ahead 40-34 and the Maroons led 42-36 at halftime.
*Marcus Morgan had 10 points and seven rebounds in the game's first 20 minutes, while Gerren Jones posted 15 points and four rebounds for Ferrum.
*Roanoke had several double-digit leads in the second half, but the Panthers rallied to trail 76-69 with 3:44 on the game clock. The Maroons finally put the game out of reach with a 7-0 surge.

Inside the numbers:
*Senior Joshua McClary scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and added eight assists and six rebounds.
*Jackson Bell netted a team-best 21 points to go with seven boards.
*Morgan tallied 14 points, a game-high nine rebounds, six assists and three steals.
*Gavin O'Malley had 11 points and six rebounds while Joshua Morse finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
*Jones scored 28 points for Ferrum (17-9) and Tae Allen totaled 11 points and five assists.
*The Maroons connected on 18-of-21 of their free throws (85.7%) while Ferrum hit on 11-of-18 (61.1%).
