BALTIMORE, MD – John Windley and Charlie Jackson combined for 44 points to lead Johns Hopkins to an 86-60 win over Haverford in the annual Wall-O'Mahony Game Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays win their eighth straight as they improve to 13-6 overall and 7-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords fall to 5-14 on the season and 2-5 in the conference.
Hopkins jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the opening three minutes, prompting a Haverford timeout. Wyatt Eglinton Manner and Jackson combined for nine of the Blue Jays' 12 points during the opening run. The Fords responded with a 6-2 spurt to pull back within six at the 13:22-mark. Jackson then hit a pair of free throws to spark 16-2 run, that spanned just five and a half minutes, as Hopkins pushed out to a 30-10 lead. Jackson scored six and Brian Johansson had five to fuel the run, which was capped by a Tanti Felli layup.
Leading 33-13 after a Gaven Marr bucket, Hopkins scored eight unanswered as Windley sandwiched a pair of triples around a Jackson layup and the Blue Jays led 41-13. Gaven Marr and Derin Ongur answered with back-to-back buckets to spark a 12-7 Fords' spurt that bled into the second half. Hopkins came right back with a 10-2 run, led by six points from Windley, to go up 58-27 with 16:44 to play. The teams went back-and-forth over the remainder of the game and the Blue Jays' lead never got below 26.
Windley went 8-of-11 from the field, including 7-of-9 from three-point, to finish with the game-high 24 points and earn Wall-O'Mahony MVP honors. The seven three-pointers are a career high and are one shy of the school record. Jackson finished 8-of-13 from the field and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Johansson handed out a game and career-high six assists. Marr led scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed five boards to earn Wall-O'Mahony MVP honors for the Fords.
Hopkins is now 19-4 all-time in the Wall-O'Mahony Game and has won 12 straight. The game is played annually in honor of men's basketball alumni Glen Wall and Matt O'Mahony, who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
