Union, NJ: The Kean University men's basketball team used a late second-half comeback to defeat Ramapo College tonight, 73-63. The Cougars move to 10-9 overall and 8-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 14-5 overall and 8-4 in the league.
Ramapo took a 33-28 lead into halftime as Peter Gorman sank a three-pointer at the buzzer. In the second half, Kean would tie the game at 44 with a layup from DJ Alicea with 13:41 on the clock before the Cougars would overcome a seven-point lead. Ramapo led 58-51 with 9:35 on the clock on a three-pointer from Gorman before Kean would go on a 17-1 run over the next 5:44. Kean took a 68-59 lead with less than four minutes to play. Jordan Myers would score the final two baskets for Ramapo in the game while Kean added five more points for the 73-63 NJAC victory.
Kean had four Cougars score in double figures as they were led by Alicea with 24 points. Justin Morton added 16 points while Andrew Turco added 13 points including four made three-pointers. Trey Harts added 12 points and a team high nine rebounds along with five assists. Kean shot 37% (20-53) from the field, 38% (8-21) from the three-point line and 69% (25-36) from the free throw line. The Cougars scored 22 points in the paint along with 13 points off Ramapo turnovers in the game.
Gorman led the way with 34 points for the Roadrunners as he finished 11-19 from the field, 5-9 from the three-point line and 7-8 from the free throw line. This is Gorman's second 30-point game of the season and his third straight game with 21 points or more. Myers added 12 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Shane Rooney added six points, five rebounds and a team high five assists while Tim Linton posted six points off the bench for the Roadrunners. Ramapo scored 26 points in the paint in the game. The team shot 44% (22-49) from the field, 41% (5-12) from the three-point line and 56% (14-25) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on the road on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the College of New Jersey for a key NJAC game at 3:00 PM.
