Men's Basketball Scorches Nets with School Record 20 Threes in Win

More news about: Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team lit up the nets early and often on Wednesday night en route to a 95-71 victory over Manchester as they shattered the school record with 20 made threes in the win.

Daniel Savovic couldn't miss early on with 20 first half points on 6 made threes, both topping his former career highs of 20 and 5 in just 20 minutes of action. Rose-Hulman would ride their hot shooting to a 47-32 halftime lead, capped off by a 35-footer at the buzzer by Joey Schmitz.

The second half was more of the same for the Fightin' Engineers as the team hit 10 of their first 14 threes of the half to be 59% from the outside prior to missing their final seven of the game. They would grow the lead as large as 29 at 91-62 before coming away with a 95-71 victory. The 95 points are the most by a team under Head Coach Nick Sales.

The 20 made threes in the game shatter the former Rose-Hulman record of 15 and falls just one three point make shy of the all-time HCAC record of 21, set by Defiance College back in the 2014-15 season.

The Fightin' Engineers also tallied the fourth-most assists in school history with 27, the most since their 1997 NCAA Tournament win over WashU.

Daniel Savovic led the Fightin' Engineers with 25 points on 7 made threes in the game. His seven made threes in a game are tied for the fifth most in school history.

Kobe Stoudemire and Joey Schmitz added 12 and 11 with a combined seven made triples and nine assists.

Miles McGowen finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Simon Blair finished just shy of double figures with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and a team-high 5 assists.

Rose-Hulman had 11 different Fightin' Engineers make their way into the scoring column with Cole Pride (8), Benny Smith (5), James Stasey (2), Jack Murphy (2), and Harry Weston (2) rounding out the scoring.

With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 11-6 on the season and 8-2 in the HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers hit the road for their next two games as they travel to Transylvania and Franklin in a pair of HCAC matchups between the top teams in the league.
