BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins junior Charlie Jackson punched up his second consecutive game with 20+ points and the host Blue Jays used a big run to open and close the first half in a 65-41 victory over visiting McDaniel inside Goldfarb Gymnasium Wednesday night.  The Blue Jays grab their fourth consecutive victory and improve to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.  The Green Terror drop their second straight and slip to 11-5 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial.

The Blue Jays sprinted out to an early 15-point lead as they needed just under 10 minutes to grab a 19-4 lead.  Jackson fueled the run as he scored nine points during the spree on three driving layups and a three-pointer.  The Blue Jays hit 8-of-14 (.571) shots from the floor and held McDaniel to just 1-of-13 shooting in the opening 10 minutes in building the early double-digit lead.

The 15-point lead was down to nine after back-to-back triples for McDaniel's Jonas Sujeta and Mikey Ayala, but the Blue Jays answered with a 16-3 half-ending run to build a 35-13 lead at the break.  Again it was Jackson leading the way during the balanced spree as he scored six points, while Jeb Williams and Tanti Felli both added four.  The Blue Jay defense held the Green Terror without a field goal for the final nine minutes of the half as McDaniel's three points during that time all came at the free throw line.

Johns Hopkins never allowed the lead to drip below 20 in the second half and led by as many as 28 at 62-34 after a pair of Nick Klaiber free throws with 4:29 remaining.

Jackson led the way for the Blue Jays with 20 points and added five rebounds, two steals and one assist in just 21 minutes of action.  Felli chipped in with 10 points in 18 minutes as head coach Ryan Cain subbed liberally in the second half.  The Blue Jays shot 47.8% (22-of-46) from the floor and hit 16-of-17 (.941) free throws on the night.  The free throw percentage is the highest for the Blue Jays in a game with 15 or more made free throw since February 22, 2013, when they also went 16-of-17 against Dickinson in the Centennial Conference Semifinals.

Matt Kearney was the only player for the Green Terror to finish in double figures with 11 points. Ryan Shaffer added seven points and a team-high three rebounds. McDaniel shot 30.2 percent from the field for the game, the lowest field goal percentage by a Hopkins opponent since Ursinus shot 29.3 percent on January 6, 2024.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, January 25 when the Blue Jays travel to Muhlenberg for another Centennial Conference game.  That will be the first of four games in eight days for Johns Hopkins, which also plays Mary Washington, Dickinson and Haverford during the four-game run.
