HOUGHTON, NY – Senior Luke Insley scored a team-high 20 points on 9-for-14 of the floor and added a season-high nine assists to help Nazareth stave off Houghton 76-70 in conference action on Tuesday.
Nazareth moves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Houghton falls to 5-5 and 0-1, respectively.
Houghton had its largest lead of the game 28-19 with 6:48 left in the first half. Nazareth closed the half on a 17-9 run behind eight points from Insley, six from Tyler Putney and three from Ryan Broderick. Putney ended the game with 19 points.
The second half was back and forth with Houghton leading 64-63 with just under six minutes remaining.
Nazareth ended up taking the lead for good at the 4:24 mark behind an Insley layup.
Over the final 4:24, Jaylen Savage came up big, scoring nine of Nazareth's 11 points, including going 4-for-4 from the line. He ended the game with 18 points.
Broderick went 3-for-4 from downtown for nine points.
Nazareth will host Utica at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, a rematch of last year's Empire 8 Championship.
