Hardy Goes Perfect From the Field as Highlanders Trounce Penn St. Abington

More news about: Cairn

ABINGTON, PA – Cairn Men's Basketball showed out on offense at Penn St. Abington on Saturday, crushing the Nittany Lions 103-64.

Play began with a midrange shot by graduate forward Josiah Hardy (Ashburn, VA / Hampden-Sydney). The Nittany Lions would go ahead by only three points before Cairn (7-5 / 4-0 UNITED EAST) turned the tide on the momentum. Hardy got going with another jump shot as classmate Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) completed a three-point-play through contact and Jeff Williamson (Brooklyn, NY / SUNY Potsdam) made a deep shot. Graduate guard Jaylon Simpson (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) went the distance with a fastbreak layup and fifth year forward Isaiah Coleman (Fontana, CA / Clarks Summit University) added a three-pointer. Baldwin and Hardy would each assist Coleman on another set of deep shots as the Highlander lead began to threaten double figures. Hardy made two mid-range jumpers and a three as Cairn kept running forward. Simpson struck for three as Penn St. Abington (0-12 / 0-4 UNITED EAST) had no answer down 51-28 at the half.

Out of the break, Simpson hit again from deep with two layups and another jump shot at the hand of Hardy. Senior guard Ashton West (Newport Beach, CA / Clarks Summit University) banked in a pair of layups with Coleman firing away from three-point range again, the lead now at thirty points. Williamson made another from behind the arc as junior guard Moses Ilodigwe (Wilmington, DE / Lycoming College) got hot with back-to-back threes to hand it off to the bench. Graduate guard Kevin McNicholas (Blairstown, NJ / William Paterson) got in the scoring column with a triple. He and senior guard Derrick Dolan (Berlin, NJ / Conwell-Egan) made added threes to break the century mark as freshman forward Andrew DaCosta (Bordentown, NJ / Bordentown) finished off the game with a layup.

Hardy led all scorers with 21 points on a perfect 10-10 shooting from the field and 1-1 from deep, the second most field goals made without a miss in NCAA Division III this season, thus far. Hardy also had nine rebounds and a trio of blocked shots to bring his tally for the week to five blocks. Coleman added 18 points on 4-8 shooting from deep. Simpson had 14 points with three assists and three steals. Cairn as a unit shot better than 56% (39-69) from the field to score over 100 points in a game for the second time this season, shooting 20-30 (66.7%) in the first half alone.

The Highlanders look to follow up this dominant performance on Wednesday as Lancaster Bible College comes to Langhorne for a 7 p.m. tip off.
