Maryville rallies over RC Men in Cregger Invite Title Game

The Short story: The Roanoke College men's basketball team had an 11 point-lead with seven minutes left Monday, but Maryville College (Tenn.) rallied for an 83-79 victory in the Championship Game of the Cregger Invitational.

How it happened:  
*The first half was tightly contested, but the Maroons opened a 28-20 advantage with eight minutes left. The Scots scored the last five points to trail just 46-45 at intermission.
*The Maroons quickly scored the first six points of the second half and held their biggest lead of the game, 75-64 with 7:09 on the game clock after a 9-0 run.
*Roanoke still led 79-73 with four minutes left, but the Scot defense didn't allow any points the rest of the way. Javi Rosell nailed a three-pointer with 1:11 left to tie the game at 79-79 and Tournament MVP Reed Kemp scored on a driving layup in traffic with 17 second left to give his team the lead. The Maroons turned the ball over on their next possession and Maryville iced the game from the free-throw line.

Inside the numbers:
*Marcus Morgan scored a team-high 22 points with a game-best 13 rebounds.
*Joshua McClary had 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.
*Gavin O'Malley contributed 11 points and Jackson Bell had eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
*Kemp finished with 27 points, including 17 in the second half, with four assists and two steals for Maryville (8-4).
*Jackson Garner added 15 points and four assists for the Scots.
