Men's Basketball Falls in Hard-Fought Battle Against Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team suffered a road loss to Hope College in their first game of the Glenn Van Wieren Classic Friday night with a final score of 69-64. This drops the team to 6-4 overall this season.

Daniel Savovic was the team's leading scorer with 17 points in the contest. The Fightin' Engineers had three other players reach double figures including Joey Schmitz (14), Kobe Stoudemire (13), and Miles McGowen (11).

McGowen came up one rebound short of a double-double leading the team on the glass with nine rebounds. 

The contest proved to be a competitive one from the start with nine lead changes throughout the entire game.

Rose-Hulman held a one-point lead with a score of 26-25 with 4:34 remaining in the first half. The Fightin' Engineers put together an 8-0 run capped off by two made free throws from Schmitz to build their largest lead of the game at 34-25 with 2:31 on the clock.

The team stood in front at the halftime break leading the Flying Dutchmen with a score of 36-31.  

Hope battled back in the second half to tie the game at 42-42 in the first four minutes. After a back-and-forth contest, Hope took the lead on a made three-pointer just under the five-minute mark 57-55. Hope put together a strong finish down the stretch to hold off the Fightin' Engineers and claim the win. 

The Fightin' Engineers will look to bounce back as they wrap up the Glenn Van Wieren Classic taking on the University of Olivet on Saturday, December 21 at 1 PM.
