Vikings Fall in Overtime to ETBU

LAGRANGE, Ga. - In day one of the LaGrange Christmas Tournament, the Vikings took on East Texas Baptist in an evenly contested match, falling 77-74 in overtime.

In Mariotti Gymnasium this evening, Berry took to the familiar court to take on ETBU.

The first half of the game was evenly battled throughout the entire 20-minutes. Berry went up 7-2 quickly, but ETBU fought and would not let the Vikings take a lead of more than 10. 

Berry kept trying to pull away and held the lead for almost the entire first half. The Tigers tied the game with 1:20 left and took the lead off a quick jumper after at 37-35 heading to the half.

Leading scorer for Berry, Braxton Benham put up 11 in the first half on his way to 23 total along with snagging 9 rebounds, just one shy of a double-double.

The big difference in the evenly contested match was bench points, with ETBU's bench contributing 34 points and Berry's putting up 10.

In the second, everything was back and forth with multiple ties and lead changes. It all came down to the final minute with the game tied, both teams had chances to take the lead, but timely turnovers ended the half and forced another five minutes of play in overtime.

East Texas Baptist hopped out early with a 6-0 run that ultimately took the game on the road.

In the tournament matchup, Berry will take on Greensboro in the consolation game tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET.
