MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's basketball team will enter winter break perfect in Midwest Conference play after taking down Cornell College 105-93 in a battle of league unbeatens Wednesday night.

The Pioneers, 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the league, ran their winning streak to six games while claiming their second consecutive MWC road victory.

Cornell, 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the MWC, got out to an 18-15 lead in the early going before Grinnell went on a critical 10-0 run to take command for good. Jordan Lee '27 began the spurt with a 3-pointer, Zach Rosen '26 drove for a layup, Jackson Leone '25 cashed in on a trey and MWC Performer of the Week Harris Dar '28 made a layup for a 25-18 lead.

Grinnell was up 46-38 at halftime and built its lead as large as 15 midway through the second half. Cornell managed a last-ditch rally, closing within 89-86 with free throws at the 3:37 mark.

However, Grinnell halted the Rams' hopes of getting any closer as Gabe Garcia '27 - who led Grinnell with 25 points - made a layup and Sean Murphy '26 drained a trey. A 3-pointer by Garcia a bit later helped Grinnell maintain control before the Pioneers iced the contest with free throws down the stretch.

Besides Garcia's big point output, others in double figures were Lee with 17 points, Kai Te Huki '27 and Murphy with 11 each and Leone with 10. Lee was 5-of-9 from 3-point land.

Tolu Johnson '25 and Nick Lundy '27 had six and five rebounds, respectively, and Dar led the assists department with seven. Leone was tops in steals with five.

Grinnell steps out of league play Saturday when Blackburn College visits Darby Gymnasium. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
