Big First Half Powers York (Pa.) To Third Straight Win

DOYLESTOWN, PA  - The York College men's basketball team closed out their season-high five game road trip with a 60-48 road win at Delaware Valley in Doylestown, PA on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans had a huge first half as they took a 40-19 lead to the halftime and cruised to the win from there.
The Spartans are now 4-2 overall while the Aggies fall to 3-4 overall.
 
How It Happened
• The Spartans raced out to a great start as they scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game. Chris Miers had five points on the run to start the game for York. The Aggies scored the next six points to cut the Spartan lead to two. York went on another run, this one a 10-4 spurt that gave York a 20-12 lead. After a DVU free throw from Zoelin Pair, the Spartans ripped off a 20-6 run over the final 6:55 of the half to take a 40-19 lead at the break.
• York shot 56% in the first half from the floor including 6-for-15 from three and 6-for-7 from the line as they took the big lead to the break.
• The second half was a much different story offensively for the Green and White as they shot just 33.3% (6-for-18) from the floor including 2-for-8 from distance. Fortunately for York, they had a big lead and their defensive effort was still very good as the only allowed 29 points in the second half. The Spartans didn't help themselves on the offensive end with 11 turnovers.
• The Aggies had an 11-1 run midway through the quarter as they cut the Spartan lead to 13. The Aggies eventually cut the Spartan lead to ten at 54-44 with 1:27 left but the lead would not fall below ten as the Spartans picked up their third straight win with them all coming on the road.

York finished the game shooting 46.5% (20-for-34) from the floor and 34.8% (8-for-23) from three … the Spartans were also solid from the line, converting 70.6% (12-for-17) from the stripe … the Aggies shot 41.9% (18-for-43) from the field while the Spartans held them to 0-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc … DVU finished 12-for-21 (57.1%) from the stripe … the Aggies out-rebounded York 29-24 for the game which led to a 12-8 advantage in second chance points … both teams finished the game with 19 turnovers … York was able to score 16 points off the DVU miscues … York had a 10-9 margin in steals … York's largest lead was 23 points at 45-22 with 16:51 left in the second half … York never trailed in the game and led for 39:29 of play … Mike Herrin led the Aggies with 12 points while Jordan Gombs and Reggie Washington each contributed 10 points … Gombs led DVU with eight rebounds.

The Spartans improve to 6-0 all-time against Delaware Valley …  York is now 2-0 against MAC Freedom teams having beaten Arcadia and Delaware Valley … York has won their last three games by an average of 15.6 points per game … York held their fifth opponent to 44% or less shooting from the floor in a game … the six Spartan opponents are 20-for-84 (23.8%) from the three point line this year … the Spartans have given up five threes or less in five games this year … the Spartans reached 70% from the free throw line for the second time in three games … the Spartans' 10 steals ties a season high set in the win over Hobart … grad guard Chris Miers led the way for the Spartans with 21 points, five rebounds and three steals in his 31 minutes of play … Miers was 7-for-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from three and 3-for-4 from the line … Jackson Mascari added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shots for the Green and White … Jayden Rowe added 11 points, two rebounds, three assists, one blocked shot and one steal in his 31 minutes of action … Kai Cipalla pulled in eight rebounds in the win while he tallied a season low five points as he took just five shots in the game.

The Spartans are now off until December 20 when they host the four-team Spartan Basketball Classic. Salisbury, Stockton and Marywood all come to Wolf Gym for a four-game tournament. York hosts Salisbury in game one on Friday at 2:00 pm followed by Stockton against Marywood at 4:00 pm. On Saturday, Marywood plays Salisbury at 2:00 pm followed by Stockton and York in the 4:00 pm game.
