MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Graduate Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) recorded his third double-double of the season and junior Ja'Quell Chisom (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a career-high 16 points off the bench to send No. 9 Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 91-67 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday at Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (7-0, 3-0 NACC), who have started the season 7-0 for the first time in program history, extended their winning streak on Catalyst Court to 18 straight games.
The Cougars scored the first four points of the game and held a 6-3 lead over WLC just over two minutes into the contest. Wisconsin Lutheran quickly erased its lone deficit of the game by netting 19 straight points, as six different players scored during the largest run of the night. The Warriors led 27-13 with 6:42 left in the first half before a 10-0 scoring run by CUC brought them within four points with just under four minutes left. Concordia Chicago trailed by just two with under three minutes remaining before WLC closed the opening half on a 10-0 run to take a 39-27 lead into the locker room.
Wisconsin Lutheran maintained a double-digit advantage for the entire second half, as it used a 7-0 run five minutes in to lead by 18 points at 51-33. The Warriors' lead reached 20 points for the first time at 61-39 when graduate Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.) hit his second three-pointer of the game with 10:58 remaining. A three-point play from Broeckel extended WLC's lead to a game-high 24 points at the 9:48 mark. Wisconsin Lutheran's lead hovered between 18 and 24 points the rest of the way, as it won its 13th consecutive game over a conference opponent.
Broeckel recorded his third double-double of the season with a game-high 22 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Chisom followed with a career-best 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Graduate Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) collected 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Hefle was the fourth player in double figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Graduate Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) dished out seven assists for the second straight game. The Warriors shot 40.3 percent (29-for-72) from the floor, while tying a season high in both free throw makes (25) and attempts (34). WLC forced 19 Cougars turnovers and converted them into 24 points.
Jacob Collicott led CUC with 13 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Concordia Chicago shot 43.1 percent (28-for-65) from the floor, but was just 1-for-15 from three-point range.
