LATROBE, Pa. – The Hood College men's basketball team lost its second straight game since cracking the top 25 rankings earlier this week, as the Blazers fell to Saint Vincent College 99-88.
Inside the Box Score
Jevon Yarbrough (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and Kullen Robinson (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) both put up 19 points in the loss.
Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds.
How it Happened
Hood looked to pull away early as Linton and Robinson combined for the first five points of the game, but a 12-2 run from Saint Vincent put the home team back on top.
While the Bearcats managed to hold the Blazers at bay for a while, Yarbrough turned into a one-man army for nearly a minute, scoring seven straight points while helping cause turnovers to retake the lead, with CJ Jackson (Elkridge, Md./Boys' Latin School) adding a long ball to put Hood ahead 28-24.
Saint Vincent quickly tied the game back up with back-to-back layups though, eventually taking a sizable 48-36 advantage with just under five minutes to play in the half. The Blazers could not make it a single-digit deficit heading into halftime, and a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc for the Bearcats made it 59-45 for them after 20 minutes of play.
The 14-point hole did not seem to faze Hood coming out of halftime, as the Blazers exploded out of the gate to tie the game at 59.
Another back-and-forth battle ensued for the next several minutes, but Saint Vincent again found their groove on both sides of the ball, scoring 16 straight points en route to an 81-69 advantage.
A pair of free throws from Robinson with just over three minutes left cut Hood's disadvantage to just eight, but that would be as close as they would get as the Bearcats kept pace with the Blazers the rest of the way to hand the ranked visitors a 99-88 defeat.
For the Opponent
Dev Ostrowski led the team with 26 points, picking up nine boards as well.
Jevontae Jones finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
