FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (2-0) stayed undefeated as they outscored George Fox University (GFU) 105-97 on Friday evening.
At the 13:33 mark Jhace Boston made a free throw that put the Bulldogs ahead 16-11. After the Bruins came back to take a two-point lead, a 16-3 run put Redlands back up 29-21 with 9:07 to play.
During the run Nathan Mattera hit a three, Lucas Gordon scored inside, Omari Ferguson made a jumper and scored on the fastbreak, Donovan Ware scored five points, and Jake Hlywiak got a two in the lane.
The ebbs and flows of the half continued as GFU cut the deficit to one before Redlands finished the final 6:44 by outscoring them by nine points as they led by 10, 55-45, at the half.
After a media timeout with 13:11 to play in the second half, Ferguson stepped to the free throw line where he made two and put the Bulldogs up by their largest margin of 16, 77-61.
Their double-digit lead lasted down to the 7:32 mark, but the Bruins would come all the way back as they took a four-point lead, 95-91, following a 20-4 run.
Redlands responded well, scoring 14 of the game's final 16 points as they managed to fend off a pesky GFU team.
Ferguson had 27 points on only 14 field goals attempts with no made threes as he converted on nine-of-12 free throws. Chozen Amadi had a sneaky 18 points and four assists. Hlywiak and Gordon each contributed 15 points.
The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround as they play the host Pacific University tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.
