Jagodzinski’s 21 Points Pushes UR Past Fisher

The University of Rochester Yellowjackets kicked off the 2024 Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout with an 83-70 victory over St. John Fisher on Thursday evening inside the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Logan Jagodzinski led the way for UR with 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists while shooting 53 percent from the field.

It took Rochester a couple of minutes to get comfortable against their crosstown rival, with Fisher leading through the first seven minutes of play.

A Bennett Kwiecinski three gave UR the lead with just under 13 minutes of play and the 'Jackets never looked back.

Corvin Oprea scored seven straight points towards the end of the second half for UR to push the lead up to 15, but Fisher showed some fight as they were able to go into the half with just a 10-point deficit.

The Yellowjackets shot a stellar 54 percent from the field in the first half, but just 30 percent from behind the three-point line.

First-year forward Camden Fleming made an impact on the second half with a three-pointer with just under 16 minutes left, pushing Rochester's lead past double digits.

Fisher crawled back with two three-pointers of their own as well as a successful trip to the line to keep the 'Jackets within striking distance.

Threes from Fleming and Ethan McEachern swung momentum back into Rochester's favor which they carried through the end of the half.

Jagodzinski's five steals were an issue for Fisher, with a steal in the backcourt leading to a huge dunk, putting momentum well into Rochester's corner.

Nate Sock hit the dagger towards the end of the second off the assist from Jagodzinski to put the contest away for Rochester.

Rochester needed everyone to pull their weight on the glass with four players having more than five rebounds.

The big-man tandem of Kwiecinski and David Ackles was crucial for the yellowjackets combining for 17 points, 11 boards and two blocks.

Corvin Oprea was a steady presence for Rochester putting up 13 points while pulling down eight rebounds of his own.

With the UR, the 'Jackets win their fourth-straight to move to 4-1 on the year, while St. John Fisher drops to 1-3.

The Yellowjackets will play in game two of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout against Nazareth University on Saturday, November 23 at 8:00 pm.
