Men's Basketball Nipped by Pfeiffer

Minsenheimer, N.C -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team opened up the 2024-25 regular season against Pfeiffer and was edged out, 66-63, on Wednesday night at Merner Gym.

Junior guard Piercen Young and senior forward Jonathan Foust combined for 29 points to lead the Hornets (0-1) offensively. Young finished with 15 points, collected eight boards and dished out four assists, while Foust tallied 14 points and snagged seven rebounds. Junior forward Jayson Easton added 10 points, three steals, three rebounds and one assist to round out Lynchburg performers with double digit scoring. Senior forward Mason Makovec grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the affair and added six points.

Lynchburg got the first five points on the board in the beginning 1:11 of action. After a Pfeiffer tip-in, the Hornets rang up seven straight points to extend their lead to double figures, 12-2, with 14:06 to go in the first half. Six of the first 12 Lynchburg points came by the hands of Young, and four of those were from freshman forward Jamarcus Brown. The Falcons clawed their way to go in front and did so at the 8:52-mark following back-to-back 3-pointers from Sean Sucarichi. From then until the halftime intermission, neither team led by more than four points.

After the break, Pfeiffer strung together an 8-2 run that gave the Falcons a seven point advantage. Alex Cunningham made the first bucket in the paint, while Daymon Beckwith and Andrew Peacock followed with 3-pointers. Pfeiffer held a single digit lead until under three minutes remained, where Young and Easton each made baskets to take a one point edge. Although the Hornets battled back ahead, the Falcons scored the last three points of the affair and closed out the game.

Beckwith scored a game-best 19 points to help earn Pfeiffer the victory. Daniel Fulp was also a significant contributor with 14 boards and nine points.

Lynchburg's next time out on the court will be in Turner Gym on Tuesday, November 19 when Warren Wilson squares off against the Hornets at 7 p.m.
