Brandeis men put on historic offensive show in 118-65 win over Lesley in Black Coaches Classic

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's basketball team had a historic offensive output this evening, putting up the program's second-highest single-game scoring total and margin of victory as the Judges defeated the Lesley University Lynx, 118-65, on the campus of UMass Boston for the first game of the Black Coaches Classic.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 2-0.
  • Lesley, 1-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Judges' 118-point offensive output has only been matched or exceeded four other times in school history. Brandeis twice put up 118 points and twice scored 119 under Hall of Fame head coach and former Boston Celtic Bob Brannum in the 1970s and 1980s.
  • The last time Brandeis scored 118 in a game was on February 25, 1984, against Salve Regina. The school record of 119 came against Yeshiva on February 28, 1971, and again on January 21, 1975 against Clark.
  • Brandeis's 53-point margin of victory is also the second-largest in school history, behind only a 65-point win by Harry Stein's 1954-55 team in a 110-45 win over Suffolk.
  • This is only the third time Brandeis has scored in triple digits under head coach Jean Bain, and the first time they have done so in regulation. The team's previous high under Bain came in their 5-overtime thriller against Tufts in 2021, when the Judges prevailed 108-102.
  • The last time Brandeis scored more than 110 in a game or won by more than 50 points was a 111-59 win over Curry on Nov. 16, 2013, under coach Brian Meehan.
  • The Judges saw all 15 players who were dressed for action score at least three points, with five reaching double figures.
  • Grad transfer Jai Deshpande (San Carlos, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) led the team with 17 points in 17 minutes of action. Fellow grad student Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St. George's School) added 13 points.
  • First-year players Elias Rodl (Berlin, Germany/Schulund Leistungssportzentrum Berlin) and Alex Zakheim (Bergenfield, N.J./Perkiomen, Pa.) each scored 12 off the bench, and sophomore Kyle Walters (Mableton, Ga./Lovett School) had a career-best 11.
  • Senior Griffin Wallbridge (Longmeadow, Mass./Tabor Acad.) had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench, while senior Toby Harris (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) had limited scoring but led the team with nine boards.
  • Grad student Aedan Using (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) had five points, a team-high five assists and three blocked shots. Junior Ethan Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y./Woodstock Acad.) had three steals.
  • The game was rarely in doubt, as the Judges opened both halves with big runs. They outscored the Lynx 14-1 to start the game over the first 4:02
  • Brandeis then scored the first 32 points of the second half as a 52-29 lead ballooned to 84-29.
  • Their largest lead of the game came with six minutes left in regulation when Walters hit a 3-pointer to put Brandeis ahead by 61 at 107-46.
  • Lesley's leading scorer was Malachi Howards, who had a game-high 22 points, while Austin Hamilton had 10. Jaxon Miles led the Lynx with six rebounds.
  • Brandeis shot 60.3% from the field (47-78) and 48.5% from 3-point range (16-33), while Lesley shot just 34.7% overall (25-72) and 22.7% from beyond the arc (5-22).
