Knights Suffer From Perimeter Woes in 89-65 Defeat to Bard

Potsdam, NY – From start to finish the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team had its troubles from the 3-point arc on Saturday, as the Golden Knights played from behind against Bard College, suffering an 89-65 defeat in Liberty League action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 11-8 overall and 5-7 in conference games, while Bard pushed its mark to 11-8 and 6-6. Clarkson has four straight games on the road ahead, beginning with Hobart College next Friday.

Although the Knights hit the first shot of the game, it was only a few seconds later that Bard would tie the game, beginning a 17-2 run in less than seven minutes, finished off by a layup from Elliot Harris. Clarkson slowly got back into the game, cutting the margin to eight near the midway point of the half thanks to a baseline jumper from Jack Dalgety, but the Raptors went on another 10-2 run to double up the Knights (32-16) when Rowan Heinze nailed a 3-pointer at 5:39. Overall, Bard went on a 20-4 run after Dalgety's make, making it 42-18 on a Sean Wilcox 3-pointer with 3:20 to go.

The first half saw Bard shoot nearly 60% from the floor (18-for-31) with a 26-12 edge in rebounds.

At the start of the second half, Clarkson employed a full-court press in an attempt to cut into the deficit in quick order, but it mostly turned into trading points. The Knights were within 19 points after a layup-and-one from Ryan Miles Ferguson with a little over 14 minutes to go, and two more free throws from Miles-Ferguson a few minutes later had the margin down to 18. However, Bard scored the next seven points, and Clarkson was down by at least 20 for the remainder of the contest.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson finished with 14 points while also grabbing seven rebounds for the Golden Knights. Jack Dalgety tossed in 13 points and Braeden Burns had 12 points and three steals. Clarkson was just 7-for-36 from beyond the 3-point arc in the game.

Bard nearly had four of its five starters in double figures in the first half, including Rowan Heinze, who had 15 points. Overall, Heinze finished with 22 points and Sean Wilcox netted 20. Elliot Harris knocked in 15 points and Heston Tucker contributed 12 points. Azriel Almodovar had just one point, but was big on the boards with 13 rebounds also found his teammates for five assists.
