William Paterson Men's Basketball Defeated by Kean in Road Tilt

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-11, 1-9 NJAC) dropped a road New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game to Kean (8-9, 5-5 NJAC), 89-76, Jan. 17.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers trailed by seven (34-27) with 4:25 on the clock in the first half before scoring six unanswered points over the span of a minute to trim the deficit to one (34-33).
  • The Cougars countered by outscoring William Paterson, 10-4, in the closing three minutes of the opening stanza to carry a seven-point advantage (44-37) into the halftime break.
  • Kean extended its lead to double figures (54-41) after going on a 10-4 run to begin the second half.
  • William Paterson made it a six-point game (56-50) with 11:17 remaining in the game following a 9-2 run, but that would be as close as the Pioneers would get as the Cougars pushed their lead back to double-digit en route to securing the 89-76 home win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Shawn Summers Jr. scored 20 points on 8-of-14 (.571) shooting with a team-high six rebounds.
  • Junior Neftali Valentin went 7-for-13 (.538) from the floor with three made shots from deep.
  • Graduate student MJ Moncrieffe had eight points and five rebounds.
  • Junior Andre Wells logged eight points and a team-best four assists.
