Men's Basketball Takes Down Hendrix

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Men's Basketball (5-9 overall, 2-1 SAA) completes their SAA weekend with a win over Hendrix (3-11 overall, 0-3 SAA), 94-79.

Blake Campbell's 25-point second half surges an SAA win for the Vikings as he finishes with 31 on the day.

The Vikings began the game with a 6-2 run, led by Braxton Benham's four-points. Within the next minute the Warriors four-point turn around ended with a three to tie it at six with 16:34 still to go in the second half. As both teams proved they could score, Jordan Krueger popped one from behind the arc to reclaim the Berry lead.

Hendrix went shot for shot with Berry until the clock hit just under eleven minutes. The Warriors' 8-0 run put them in front after back-to-back triples (23-20). Second leading scorer, Benham responded by striking one of his own and followed his three with a layup the next possession for five quick points. Up two, the Vikings started to pull away and gained their largest advantage when Drew Winegarden's three took it to seven (30-23), Winegarden had a new career-high, five made field-goals on the day.

The Warriors began to fight back at the five-minute mark after three points returned the momentum in their favor. Another three made late in the first half tied the game at 38 and Hendrix looked to claim a lead they had not saw since early in the game. Both SAA teams battled for the remaining minute of the first half and after Winegarden hit a huge three with eight second remaining, the Vikings looked to have a possession over the Warriors going into the second half, but Daniel Cobb of Hendrix sunk a buzzer-beater that tied the game at 45 heading to halftime.

Head Coach Hedgepeth says that he was "proud of the group and their response in the second half. Obviously, Blake had a terrific scoring stretch, but as a group we were much more active defensively and did a better job valuing the ball on the offensive end."

Campbell began the second half with the first of nine threes for the Vikings. Five of Berry's six field-goals of the second half were from three land as Berry began to make a splash in the Cage.

Once the home team's lead reached 10, just under the 15-minute mark, there was no hope in sight for the Warriors. Campbell took over with an 11-0 run by himself to uproar the fans. Hendrix never gave up and at the halfway point through the second half the Vikings lead sat at 14, but the Warriors would be unsuccessful in bringing it any closer than 11-points.

The Vikings had a field day offensively and exploded with points as they came together to score a new season high of 94 in their dominant win over Hendrix.

Catch them back in action on Friday at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Tip-off set for 8:00 PM ET.
