Vikings Fall in Tough Battle to #19 Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - Berry Men's Basketball (3-8 overall) fell to #19 Trine University (9-1 overall) in the opening game of the 2023 St. Andrews Products Classic, 88-76.

The Vikings started off hot with makes on their first three field goals, but the Thunder responded with a three and four points in the paint, where they would find success the entire game. Down 8-7, leading scorer, Blake Campbell nailed a three to end a 5-0 ru nfor the Vikings and give them the advantage at 12-8 eight minutes in.

A Trine three pointer sparked a 7-0 run for them to regain their lead halfway through the first period (15-12). Free-throws from Berry tied the game at 15 and began a back and forth scoring affair for the remainder of the first half. The Thunder went up as much as eight with 4:32 until halftime, but the Vikings continued to fight and found themselves only down two possessions before starting the second half (37-33).

In the second half, the Thunder's 52 total points in the paint for the game found them success offensively as they went on to score 51-points in their final 20 minutes of play.

Six minutes in, after a pair of threes, Trine took a 17-point advantage as Berry searched for an answer.

Berry quickly brought the game back within eight points as Campbell had two quick buckets for five points and teammates Braxton BenhamJacob Morgan, and Jordan Krueger chipped in.

The closing battle begun and Drew Winegarden's huge three stunned Trine with now only a five-point difference with eight minutes to go (64-59).

Trine held their distance as they closed out the game with a quick run to take the win at 88-76.

Berry continues action in the St. Andrews Products Classic tomorrow against Calvin at 1:00 PM ET.
