The second day of Holiday Classic action concluded with Guilford College facing off against William Peace, a rematch from November 29 in Raleigh. The defense was dominant once more, stifling the Pacers en route to a 64-33 win.
Similar to yesterday's contest, the opponent snatched the early lead, before the Quakers slowly began to crawl back and take control. A 10-0 run put Guilford firmly in the driver's seat with 9:29 to play in the first period (16-9).
The rest of the period was dominated by the Quakers, capped by a 17-4 swing to storm into the halftime break, leading by 18 (33-15). GC held William Peace to just four made field goals and six turnovers, while holding the points off turnovers margin (9-3). Tyler Dearman and Luke Proctor topped a fluid Quaker offense with eight points each.
Guilford maintained its offensive intensity coming out of the break with a 16-5 run, ballooning the lead to 29 (49-20). In this stretch, the offense made four of five from beyond the arc. Much like the first period, the defense prevented the Pacers from making many shots, limiting them to just two made field goals out of a potential seven.
This trend stayed true for the remainder of the period, capping off a 31-point victory, the Quakers' largest of the season thus far. Points were spread across the Guilford offense; Dearman led all scorers with 13, to go along with six rebounds. Julius Burch was the only other Quaker in double digits, with 10. Burch dominated the paint with 12 rebounds, and contributed two steals.
As a team, GC limited William Peace to just 10 field goals made, and led the rebound margin 49-22. Guilford's bench provided some scoring depth as well, with 22 points.
The Quakers return after the new year, traveling to Virginia for an ODAC matchup versus Bridgewater College on Wednesday, January 3. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
