Nazareth Downs Hartford 77-76 In Overtime

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's basketball squad won a thrilling game in overtime on Saturday night, a 77-76 triumph over Hartford College. Luke Insley recorded a double-double with 15 points (7-for-11) and a career-high 10 assists. Two other scorers added 15 points in Logan Blankenberg and Tyler Putney
 
Nazareth gets back to .500 at 5-5 with the win, while Hartford drops to 4-6 overall with the loss.
 
After holding a seven-point halftime lead, Nazareth started slow in the second as Hartford tied the game at 39.
 
Nazareth had a strong push and following a 3-pointer from Putney, led 50-41 at the 11:18 mark.
 
Hartford eventually clawed its way back and led 65-60 with just over two minutes to play. A Blankenberg 3-pointer was followed up by a Hartford bucket. Insley and Savage scored on back-to-back possessions to even the score at 67 with :27 on the clock. Following a missed free throw by the Hawks, Nazareth missed the game-winning attempt on two opportunities.
 
Putney (six points) and Blankenberg scored all of the Golden Flyers points in overtime. Trailing 73-72, Putney drilled his third 3-pointer of the game to give Nazareth the lead for good at 75-73 at 2:04.
 
Nazareth led by as many as 13 points in the opening half after Jack Broderick put home a layup with just under five minutes to play making it 30-17. He ended the game with 10 points.
 
The Golden Flyers went cold from the field the rest of the half, scoring just two more points which allowed the Hawks to cut the lead to 32-25. 
 
Jordan Haggard led Nazareth in the opening 20 minutes scoring eight of his 12 points for the game on 3-for-6 shooting.
 
Nazareth returns to action on Friday, traveling to Elmira for a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 matchup.
