Third-Ranked Guilford Continues Unbeaten Start with Victory over Pride

The third-ranked Guilford College men's basketball team returned back to the Gate City for a matchup against cross-town rival Greensboro College at the nearby Greensboro Coliseum. A steller shooting night from junior forward Caleb Farrish culminated in a fifth-straight victory over their rivals, 60-45.

The first half began with a back-and-forth from both offenses, trading baskets before the Pride claimed an 8-3 lead. Shortly after, the Quakers replied with a 16-4 run, with eight of the points scored by Farrish. Graduate student Tyler Dearman contributed five points.

The Guilford defense stonewalled Greensboro, holding them scoreless for two-plus minutes after the 10 minute mark, including missing multiple three-pointers. On the other hand, the visiting teams' offense stayed hot from beyond the arc (6-12), en route to its largest lead of the game (26-16) with eight minutes remaining in the first half.

A scoreless three-minute span from both teams was halted by Farrish, his third three of the game, and a game-high 11 points (5:16). Two more three-pointers from the forward extended the Quakers' lead to 13, and stayed that way at the halftime buzzer (36-23).

The two squads traded buckets coming out of the half, but Guilford maintained a double-digit lead. The Pride began to stymie the Quaker offense however, holding them scoreless for 2:41, including missing six of their last seven field goals (14:22).

Guilford's offense struggled to get going after this point, but a corner three from Gabe Proctor sparked a 15-2 run to go up 19 (58-39) with 3:35 left in the second. In spite of a cold second half, shooting 9-30 (30%) in the period, the Quakers cruised to a comfortable victory, 60-45.

Farrish finished with 20 points, going 6-11 from beyond the arc. Julius Birch added 10 points with 10 rebounds and five assists. As a team, Guilford forced 17 turnovers, including seven steals.

The Quakers hit the road once more before the winter break to face the Hornets of Shenandoah University, on Tuesday, December 19th. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
