Men's Basketball: Bradford Brothers Record Double-Double in Victory Over Nittany Lions

LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Highlanders Men's Basketball team was rolling Monday night at home, racing past the Nittany Lions of Penn State – Lehigh Valley, 107-88.

Senior forward Owen Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) got things started with six points in the paint in the first five minutes of play for Cairn (6-1 / 2-0 United East Skye Division). His next layup and three by senior guard Aytor Alberto (Willemstad, Curaçao / Clarks Summit University) put the Highlanders up eight, their biggest lead thus far with 12 minutes to play. Junior guard Jon Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) joined the party from behind the arc with Bradford making the and-one layup and succeeding free throw. Junior guard Derrick Dolan (Berlin, NJ / Conwell-Egan) found the net from three point territory along with another by Alberto. Junior guard Christian Rivera (Cayey, Puerto Rico / Central Bucks East) found Bradford for two more buckets before assisting sophomore guard Liam Carey (Ottsville, PA / Palisades HS) for a triple. Bradford made another and-one layup and free throw as Cairn finished on an 8-1 run in the last two minutes of play, closing the half 63-39.

Out of the break, Penn State – Lehigh Valley (6-4 / 2-3 PSUAC) would open on a 6-2 run that was short lived thanks to senior forward Derian Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge), scoring five points in a row for himself to get Cairn back on pace. Owen Bradford would take his turn in the scoring column with six more points of his own before Carey and fifth year guard Josh Forker (Telford, PA / Faith Christian Academy) each buried a three. As the Nittany Lions cut the lead to 15, Alberto found a fast break layup with another Forker triple to bring the lead right back. The high-paced Cairn offense was too much for the Nittany Lions tonight as the game went final, 107-88.

The Highlanders shot 50.6% (42-83) on the game, an even 40% (10-25) from three point land and 13-17 from the charity stripe. Owen Bradford recorded a career-high 29 points on 13-16 along with 11 rebounds. Derian Bradford was next with 26 points and 11 rebounds as well along with five assists, both Bradford brothers recording a double-double. Alberto rounded out the twenty-point scorers with 22 and 2 three-pointers. Rivera passed a game-high 7 assists, adding nine points and six rebounds.

Cairn resumes conference play on Wednesday as they head to Bryn Athyn to take on the Lions inside Asplundh Field House at 7 p.m.
