WestConn Men's Basketball Slams St. Joseph's

DANBURY, Conn. - Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 91-39 win over the visiting St. Joseph's University (N.Y.) Bears in men's basketball action this evening at Feldman Arena.  WestConn improves to 4-1 with its fourth victory in a row heading into its Little East Conference (LEC) opener on Saturday at home against Plymouth State at 3 p.m.  St. Joseph's drops to 1-6.  The Wolves outrebounded the Bears, 55-30, forced 25 turnovers, and held St. Joseph's to 23.2 percent shooting from the field.

WestConn dominated play from start to finish, opening up an 11-1 lead over the first 3:41 with Young scoring seven of the 11 points.  The Wolves lead soared to 18-3 and then to 30-6 before the home squad closed the firsdt half with a 7-0 run to head into the locker room ahead, 53-19.  Young had 15 points at the break.  The second half was more of the same, as WestConn outscored the Bears, 38-20, after intermission.  Alfonso Stokes (Bloomfield, Conn.) added 13 points and sophomore Jaysean Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had 10 points and three steals for the Wolves.  Junior forward James Rhodes (Tarrytown, N.Y.) led all rebounders with seven, while sophomore Jahlyl Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) dished a team-high five assists.  Evan Sirakis led the Bears in scoring with six points and Adam Jasaraj had five boards for the visitors.
