ON A HIGH NOTE – BIG SECOND HALF SENDS WAR HAWKS TO VICTORY

ABILENE, TEXAS – Head coach Zach Pickelman and his McMurry University men's basketball coaching staff couldn't have planned a better way to conclude the 2022-23 campaign.

Looking to end a five-game skid in American Southwestern Conference action, the Maroon, Black, and Gold gave senior guard Remy Minor (Chicago, Ill.) a send-off to remember at Kimbrell Arena. A white-hot 68.75 percent field goal shooting effort bolstered by hitting better than 53 percent from outside the arc allowed the home side to post 58 points over the second 20 minutes.

Pickelman's crew needed every bit of that offensive juggernaut, as the visiting Tornados, seeking to go into the postseason league tourney with momentum, continually answered every McMurry march. Two lay-ups from junior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) and freshman guard Elijah Lomas in the final 44 seconds, coupled with some Concordia University misses sealed the War Hawks' 103-98 victory.

Lomas, winding up a remarkable second half of the year roll with nine double-figure totals in his last 10 appearances, put up 23 points by way of missing just one field goal try in 25 minutes. He also battled inside for seven rebounds. Garcia was right beside him in the scoring column with 21 points. Minor, closing out his McMurry career with better than 925 points, added 18 as part of a dazzling double-double with 10 assists. The junior guard combination of Rob Charles (Houston, Texas) and C.J. LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) made it five War Hawks in double digits with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

McMurry's 2022-23 season concluded at 7-18 overall and 6-12 in the ASC.
