Strong Offense Lifts #2 R-MC Men’s Hoops over SU

ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Keishawn Pulley, Jr. (Louisa, Va./St. Christopher's) led all players with 16 points as every Yellow Jacket scored for the second-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team in a 96-41 ODAC win over Shenandoah on Wednesday evening to extend its win streak to 18 games and its home win streak to 60 games.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) hit a three-pointer to start the scoring and a triple by Pulley gave the Yellow Jackets a 13-2 advantage five minutes into the contest. The Hornets pulled to within six at 15-9 before a bucket by senior Noah Lindsay (Moseley, Va./Benedictine) sparked a 22-4 spurt as R-MC led 37-13 with 4:30 remaining in the first period. Talbert had a layup and a jumper in the final two minutes as the Yellow Jackets led 46-17 at the break. Talbert topped the team with 11 points in the first half and senior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added nine with three blocks.
  • Junior Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) hit a free throw to start the scoring in the second half and make the margin 30 at 47-17. A layup by Pulley made it 59-19 with 14:30 left in the contest. Freshman Kyle Keener (Canton, Ga./Sequoyah) hit a three-pointer for a 76-26 lead midway through the second period. Freshman Liam Joyce (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central) completed a three-point play to give R-MC its largest lead of 55 points at 81-26 with 8:30 remaining. In the final two minutes, sophomore Ash Ally (Melbourne, Australia/Nossal) had a tip-in, freshman Bryce Scott (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) hit a free throw and sophomore Can Dalli (Istanbul, Turkey/Perkiomen School) nailed a trey to make the final 96-41.

By The Numbers:

  • Mallory had four blocked shots to give him 251 for his career, a program and ODAC record.
  • R-MC had three players score in double figures. Pulley led with 16, while Talbert finished with 13 and Mallory added 11.
  • Pulley was 6 for 9 from the floor and 4 for 6 on three-pointers.
  • Joyce scored a season-high seven points. Dalli matched his season best with three points and Ally tied his career-high with two points.
  • The 96 points by R-MC was a season high, as was 14 made three-pointers.
  • Mallory has 1,338 career points, keeping him in 18th place on R-MC's career scoring list.
  • Talbert has 1,143 career points. He moved past Stewart Nelson (1977-81) to sit 33rd on R-MC's career scoring list.
  • Talbert paced the victors with eight assists. Scott had a season-high four assists and Pulley matched his season best with four assists.
  • The Yellow Jackets had a season-high 31 assists.
  • R-MC had a 38-27 edge on the glass. Mbangue had 11 rebounds for the second straight game. Scott matched his season high with seven caroms.
  • Mallory has 768 career rebounds, the eighth-highest total in program history.
  • Mbangue led the team with four steals.
  • It was the largest margin of victory for R-MC since defeating Shenandoah 117-60 on Jan. 9, 2019 in Ashland.
  • The Yellow Jackets have held four of their past five opponents to less than 50 points.

For the Record:

  • R-MC extended its home win streak to 60 games, a program record and the longest current streak in all NCAA divisions. The Division III record is 62, set by North Park from 1984-1988.
  • The Yellow Jackets extended their win streak to 18 games. R-MC has won 31 straight ODAC contests over the past three seasons and is 61-2 in conference contests over the past five seasons.
