Redding and Jones Power LVC Men’s Basketball to Overtime Win

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Antonio Redding was clutch in regulation to send the game into overtime and then Collin Jones took over as the Lebanon Valley men's basketball team earned a huge 81-73 victory over Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.

The Dutchmen (6-13, 4-6 MAC Commonwealth) split the season series with the Mustangs (11-9, 5-6 MAC Commonwealth) and earned an important win to move within a half game of the final qualifying spot for the conference tournament. The game was close throughout with 13 lead changes and seven ties. The first half defense was on display with scoring at a premium in the first 10 minutes. The Mustangs knocked down a three to take a 13-12 lead and then LVC came right down the court with Kyle Tang finding Payton Lewis on a beautiful backdoor cut for an easy layup. The Dutchmen took their largest lead of the half at 23-18 following an Evan Smith three and Tang jumper with a little under six to go in the half. Stevenson ended the half strong and took a 34-29 lead into the break.

Collin Jones started the scoring in the second half and then Stevenson hit a three and a putback layup to take a 39-31 lead. Stevenson grew the lead to 13 with 11:33 on the clock forcing the Dutchmen to call a timeout. The comeback started with a Jones free throw and then a Smith three-pointer. A couple of possessions later Jones scored on a putback, Smith knocked down another three and then Redding hit a jumper to bring LVC within two at 50-48. The Mustangs were able to trade scores with the Dutchmen and led by as many as six in the final six minutes of the half. The lead was four with 1:27 to play when Redding hit a pull-up jumper. The defense forced a bad pass at the other end of the floor and then Redding tied the game with a layup. The Dutchmen had a chance to win in regulation, but Redding's shot at the buzzer just rimmed out.

The overtime period belonged to the Dutchmen as Lewis hit a jumper and then Jones knocked down a three. After a pair of free throws by Stevenson, Jones knocked down another three to give LVC a 68-62 lead with two minutes left. The Dutchmen closed out the game at the free throw line making 13 of 14.

Inside the Box Score

  • LVC had five in double figures led by Jones with 19 points. The senior did most of his scoring after the first half and pulled down 14 rebounds for his sixth straight double-double.
  • Redding had 16 points off the bench and three assists
  • Lewis added 18 points and nine rebounds.
  • Smith hit four threes to finish with 14 points and pulled down four rebounds.
  • Tang had 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
  • The Dutchmen shot 45.2 percent from the floor and made 19 of 22 free throws for 86.4 percentage.
