LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) scored a season-high 21 points and senior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added 20 as the second-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team outscored Lynchburg 53-36 in the second half in an 83-63 ODAC victory on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:

  • The Hornets had the first bucket of the game before a layup by junior Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and two free throws by Talbert gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead at 4-2 four minutes into the contest. A jumper by sophomore Vincent Payne (Frederick, Md./St. Maria Goretti) gave R-MC a three-point cushion at 10-7 with 13:10 remaining in the first half. A three-point play be Mbangue put the Yellow Jackets up 13-9 before Lynchburg scored eight straight to go up 17-13 with nine minutes left. Mallory had a three-point play and a layup to complete a 12-0 run as R-MC took a 25-17 lead with five minutes remaining. The Hornets had an 9-1 spurt to tie the game before a layup by Talbert with 42 seconds left put the Yellow Jackets on top 28-26. After a free throw by Lynchburg, Talbert made another layup with five seconds remaining as R-MC led 30-27 at intermission. Talbert had eight first-half points, while Mallory tallied seven.
  • Talbert hit a foul shot and Mallory added two field goals as the Yellow Jackets took a 35-27 lead with 17:30 remaining. The Hornets pulled with four at 44-40 before a three-point play by freshman Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Louisa, Va./St. Christopher's) sparked a 15-7 spurt as R-MC assumed a 56-44 advantage midway through the second period. Lynchburg closed to within six at 64-58 before the Yellow Jackets ended the game on a 19-5 run over the final 5:30 in posting the 83-63 victory.

  • R-MC had four players score in double figures. Along with 21 by Talbert and 20 by Mallory, Mbangue and freshman Bryce Scott (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) both tallied 10, a season-best for Scott.
  • Mallory had a perfect shooting game, going 7 for 7 from the floor and 6 for 6 from the free throw line.
  • Mallory has 1,265 career points, placing him 26th on R-MC's career scoring list.
  • Talbert has 1,057 career points, standing in 38th on R-MC's career scoring list.
  • Freshman Jabril Robinson (Darwood, Md./South Kent Prep) led the victors with four assists.
  • Mallory and Mbangue paced the Yellow Jackets with six rebounds each.
  • Mallory has 726 career rebounds, the ninth-highest total in program history.
  • Mallory had one blocked shot. He has 232 career blocks, a program record and the second-highest total in the history of the ODAC. Ben Strong of Guilford (2004-08) had 236.

  • The Yellow Jackets extended their win streak to 13 games.
  • R-MC has won seven straight against Lynchburg.
