The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team upset no. 25-ranked RPI on the road on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Engineers 50-37.

The Saints and Engineers both rely on their defenses, being first and second in the Liberty League in opponents' points per game. RPI's opponents have shot just 38-percent from the floor this season, which is what St. Lawrence shot today, but the Saints held RPI to 26.5-percent.

The Saints distributed their early scoring, in the opening 10 minutes they scored 13 points from five different players, including 3-pointers from Aidan Macaulay, Gavin Macaulay, and Liam McDonald. Gavin Macaulay scored a quick four-points on his own with just under nine minutes to go, and then Trent Adamson took over for the Saints, going 3-3 from the floor and the Scarlet and Brown went into halftime up 23-17.

The Saints came out of the break and scored the opening nine points and jumped out to a 15-point lead. The Engineers hit a jump-shot to stop the run, but Carter Storey responded with his second three of the half, and Trey Syroka hit a floater and the Saints were up 27-19. RPI never cut the lead to less than 11 points, and Will Engelhardt and Storey each went 2-2 from the line in the final 23 seconds to ice the game.

"This was a great bounce-back win," said head coach Chris Downs. "This was a game featuring two very good defensive teams, and points are hard to come by. We need to work on our offense moving forward."

Gavin Macaulay led all scorers with 11 points. Adamson had eight points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. Syroka finished with six points, five rebounds, and four steals for a well-rounded effort. The Saints have struggled from the line this season, but went 11-13, while the Engineers went 6-11.

St. Lawrence has won three of their last four and improve to 8-5 and 4-3 in the league. RPI falls to 11-3, and are 5-2 in the league.

The Saints continue their road stretch next weekend, playing RIT on January 20th and Hobart on the 21st.
