ALFRED, NY – A strong shooting effort from the Alfred University men's basketball team led to a 93-80 win over Hartwick College on Friday night from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

The Saxons (9-3, 4-1 Empire 8) matched their season-high with 33 made field goals, while the Hawks (2-6, 1-2 Empire 8) lost the rebound battle by a 33-30 margin.

Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the efforts for Alfred University with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicotville) finished the game with 18 points, five boards and two blocks. Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) added 14 points for AU.

"A lot of credit to Hartwick," Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. "They're very well-coached and they played well tonight. I was proud of our guy's unselfishness on offense - we got great shots because of it."

Bowen sparked AU's offense early in the first half, scoring six of the team's first nine points. Following eight lead changes across the first 12 minutes of action, a three-point shot from Robby Hicks (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) gave the Saxons the lead once again. Hicks hit two additional shots from beyond the arc, extending the advantage to six points. Casey Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) scored from three-point range in the closing seconds, as Alfred University entered halftime with a 42-37 lead.

A three-point shot from Enders was followed by a layup from Marshall to give AU their first double-digit advantage of the evening. The Hawks found some open shots throughout the remainder of the second half, but the Saxons shot 65.5 percent from the field thanks to points from six different players to hold on for the win.

"Russell Sage is a very tough team," Kaempffe said. "We'll do our best to prepare for them and play as hard as we can tomorrow."

Alfred University will face a quick turnaround when they host Russell Sage College on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
