Men's Basketball defeated by Transylvania

The Yellow Jackets were dealt their sixth straight conference loss by Transylvania, 76-62, at the Karl H. Weaner Center Saturday afternoon.

The Basics:

  • Records: Defiance (5-8, 0-6) Transylvania (6-7, 3-3)

  • Location: Karl H. Weaner Center - Defiance, Ohio

  • Attendance: 189

Inside The Numbers:

  • Freshman Cole Wojciechowski scored a career-high eight points. Six were in the first half.

  • Marell Jordan finished with nine points and four assists.

  • Te Jones finished with 13 points, 11 came in the first half.

  • The Pioneers had a 40-32 rebound advantage.

  • Transy had a plus nine advantage in free throws made.

  • Jaylan Green scored 14 points for Transy and Luke Schroeder had three blocks.

The Breakdown:

  • Transylvania jumped out of the gate and started the game on a 12-4 run.

  • A three by Te Jones gave Defiance their only lead of the game at 24-22 with 10:02 remaining in the first half.

  • Transy immediately answered as they responded with a 9-0 run to take a 31-24 lead that was capped by a Daniel Mullins trey. 

  • Transylvania closed the final six minutes of the first half with a 16-4 run to take a 47-31 halftime lead.

  • 26 of the 47 first half points for the Pioneers came from inside the paint.

  • The big difference in the first half was second chance points. Transy had an 11-2 advantage in second chance points that allowed them to pad their lead.

  • Both teams started the second half slow as the Pioneers still led by 16 at the first media timeout.

  • Transy led by 20 at the second media timeout and led by as many as 24.

  • Defiance finished the final 2:38 on a 9-0 run as Landon Swanner, Cam Martin, and Sherod Brooks each knocked down a three.
