Trinity Men's Basketball Wins At Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams improved to 13-1 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC with their fourth win in a row, 73-58, against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.  Trinity will host Eastern Nazarene in its next game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  Rookie Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) scored 17 points, junior Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) had 15 points, and sophomore forward Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) added 12 points for the Bantams.  Bowdoin, now 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the league, was led by Afamdi Achufusi with 13 points. The game was tight early until an 10-1 run gave Bowdoin a 21-11 lead midway through the first half.  Consecutive buckets by Otto and a three-pointer by Macarchuk made the score, 21-18, at the six-minute mark and a drive by senior guard Joe Hoch (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) tied the game at 25-25 with 3:07 left in the first half.  Macarchuk drilled two more from long range in the final minute to give the Bantams a 31-29 lead at intermission.  Macarchuk made yet another trey just 14 seconds into the second half and an Otoo three-pointer gave the Bantams a double-digit advantage at 43-32 five minutes after halftime.  Trinity led by as many as 19 points and never less than 11 the rest of the way. Trinity forced 22 turnovers, including six on steals by first-year Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) and five more on swipes by senior forward Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.).  Smith also paced Trinity on the boards with seven, while Vetter grabbed six boards.  James McGowan joined Achufusi in double figures in scoring for the Polar Bears with 12 points, while Kevin Reeves pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.  Trinity's bench contributed 27 points and the Bantams scored 14 points on second chances.
