BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Led by junior Lucas Murray, the Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team started the season with a victory as they orchestrated a come-from-behind victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Murray led the Gryphons with 20 points and five rebounds while Eamon Kelly and Amos Grey contributed 11 and nine points respectively.

Numbers

  • Murray led the Gryphons in scoring and tied for the lead in rebounding with a career-high 20 points to go with five rebounds
  • Kelly was the second highest scorer on the team, contributing 11 points via three 3-pointers
  • Grey added nine points and led the Gryphons with five assists. He also added two steals on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Chris Dougherty added six points on two 3-pointers, including a key shot to give the Gryphons some insurance late in the second half, to go along with three rebounds and a block

How it Happened
After going into the half down four points due to a 10-3 opening run in favor of WIT, the Gryphons worked their way back into the game methodically, using their strong defense to create turnovers and knotting the game up at 48 with 10:30 left in the contest. Three consecutive three-pointers ignited the final rally, as Kelly and John Kairouz both connected from deep to tie the game at 53 and then take a 56-53 advantage. Almost a minute later Dougherty connected on his second long ball of the game to give Sarah Lawrence a six-point cushion. The Gryphons turned up the defensive intensity late in the game as they held WIT to just seven points in the final nine minutes of play and remained in control until the final buzzer.
