HIRAM, Ohio - January 4, 2023 - Hiram saw its 5-game win streak and perfect 6-0 home record both come to an end after an 83-79 loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Price Gymnasium.

Trent Jakacki recorded a career-high 30 points on 11-17 shooting and 6 three-pointers. Brodgie Gordon chipped in 14 points, 8 of which were scored in the final minute of regulation.

The Terriers scored 16 points in the last 90 seconds of the game, cutting a 12-point margin to 78-76 with 28 seconds to play. Jakacki and Kevin Beans Jr. also added to the late rally, but the Battling Bishops made enough free throws to seal the NCAC affair.

It marks the first home loss for Hiram dating back to Feb. 9, 2022 against Denison and its first loss in any game since it opened conference play at Wooster on Nov. 30. Their 5-game win streak was their longest since winning 6 straight games in Dec. 2017.

For Jakacki, the 30-point performance marks just the second 30-point game by a Hiram player this season. Levi MacAdam had 36 points in the season opener against Geneva.

Hiram trailed for all but 17 seconds in the first half, falling behind by as many as 10 points. Henry Hinkle led OWU with 14 points on 6-7 shooting from the field during that span.

An early run in the second half would get the Terriers back on track.

Doug Sartain capped off a 9-2 run with a three-pointer to level the tally at 50-50. Ricky Esdel followed with a putback layup to keep it close. The teams finished the game with the same number of points off turnovers (10) and second-chance points (14).

The margin remained close thanks to consistent shooting from Jakacki, active play from Ivan Yang and the presence of Addison Singletary in the frontcourt. Singletary posted 4 points and 2 blocks in his second game with double-digit minutes of the season.

Ohio Wesleyan would pull away late, with Grant Spicer finishing with 16 points on 7-8 shooting and the conference's leading scorer, Jack Clement, scoring 15 points of his own.

A quick turnaround is in store for head coach Taylor Roth and company, as the team travels to Greencastle, Indiana to take on DePauw on Saturday at 1 p.m.
