HIRAM, Ohio - November 16, 2022 - Hiram did just enough in the final moments of a back-and-forth affair to edge past Pitt Bradford in an 82-81 victory on Wednesday at Price Gymnasium.

It started when Kevin Beans drove the middle of the lane and knocked down a jump shot from the center of the painted area to give the Terriers an 82-81 lead with 6.1 seconds remaining in regulation. The Panthers took a timeout with a chance to win the game.

Pitt Bradford's Nathan Schneider dribbled the length of the court before drawing a Hiram shooting foul while driving hard to the hoop. Schneider would miss both free throws to give Hiram consecutive wins for the first time since January last season.

"Every possession is a play. We were able to win more plays," head coach Taylor Roth said after the game.

Beans went 2-11 from the field, but his final shot proved to be the difference in the game. The senior has made an impact on both ends of the floor, and his 34.7 minutes per game season trails only Brodgie Gordon (35.3) for the team lead.

"He's a gamer. He plays really hard," Roth said. "He could miss every shot he takes for 39 minutes and I still believe he's going to make it at the end just because of how tough he is."

The starting backcourt duo of Gordon and Trent Jakacki scored 22 and 20 points respectively to lead the team. Also standing out was sophomore center Ivan Yang, who recorded career-highs in points (14) and rebounds (12).

Hiram followed a similar formula as it did on Tuesday against Pitt Greensburg; despite trailing at the half in both games, the team roared back with 55 and 52 points in the second half by playing with pace and attacking the basket. The Terriers went 14-17 at the free-throw line in the second half on Wednesday after going just 2-2 at the line in the opening 20 minutes.

"We're trying some things that are different," Roth said of the team's adjustments with multiple injuries on the roster. "We're trying to play faster."

The team wraps up its 3-game homestand on Sunday against Bluffton at 4 p.m. A win would give Hiram a winning record for the first time since it started last season with a 2-1 record.
