WAYNE, N.J. – Behind a pair of career performances from senior Adryan Lopez and Shawn Summers Jr., the William Paterson men's basketball team (4-2, 1-1 NJAC) secured an 85-79 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory over New Jersey City (3-3, 0-2 NJAC) on Nov. 30

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers got off to a strong start and grabbed a double-digit lead (23-13) with 12:40 on the clock in the first half. During that stretch, William Paterson shot 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and 3-of-6 (.500) from deep.
  • However, over the final seven minutes of the frame, the Gothic Knights climbed back into the contest and made it a one-point game (41-40) before the halftime horn sounded.
  • In the second half, neither side could gain much separation as the two teams traded baskets. William Paterson was able to gain a slight edge late by capitalizing at the foul line and eventually went on to earn the conference home win.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lopez posted his first career 20-point performance after shooting 8-of-12 (.667) from the floor with five rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • Summers Jr. also reached the 20-point mark for the first time in his career, finishing with 20 in the scoring column on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting to go along with seven rebounds.
  • Junior Tyreek Montgomery logged 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.
  • He has reached double-digit points in all six games this season.
  • Junior Caesar Silvestro scored in double figures for the first time this year by recording 10 points.

  • The Pioneers will head to Glassboro, N.J., Saturday to take on Rowan in an NJAC game slated for 3:00 p.m.
