Johns Hopkins Cruises to 88-56 win at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD – The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team cruised to an 88-56 win at Washington College Tuesday night in Centennial Conference action.
 
Trailing 6-5 early, graduate student Ethan Bartlett drained a three to grab the lead for the Blue Jays and spark an 8-0 run. Kedrick Frink then sandwiched four points for the Shoremen around a Lincoln Yeutter free throw and it was 14-10 Hopkins with 14:13 to play in the half.
 
Graduate student Jayden Nixon answered with four straight points to ignite a 20-3 run as the Blue Jays' lead ballooned to 21. Freshman Charlie Jackson capped the run with seven straight points to stake Hopkins to a 34-13 lead with 8:50 to go. Four Blue Jays combined to score 20 points in a run that spanned just over five minutes.
 
The teams went back and forth over the next three minutes and JHU led 38-20. The Blue Jays then got three straight three-pointers from Nixon and graduate student Tom Quarry and just like that the lead was 27. The Jays and the Shoremen traded buckets over the final two minutes of the half and Hopkins took a 51-24 lead into the break.
 
The Blue Jays opened the second with back-to-back triples from Quarry, Bartlett and senior Carson James and the lead swelled to 36. The Shoremen answered with an 18-8 spurt to trim the deficit to 26 with 11:53 to play, but they could get no closer than that. Hopkins once again responded with three consecutive three-pointers and that would do it. Washington College would get no closer than 29 points in the final 10 minutes.
 
Quarry led all scorers with 17 points and eclipsed the 900-point mark. He now needs 87 points to reach 1,000 for his career. Bartlett finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds to go with three assists and two steals. James scored 11 points and matched his career-high with seven assists. Nixon added a career-best 11 points and matched his best with four rebounds. Sam Corrao led the Shoremen with 12 points, while Frink had 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, December 3 as the Blue Jays host Muhlenberg. Tip-off at Goldfarb Gym is slated for 2:00 pm.
 
Notes: Hopkins held Washington College to just 27.4 percent from the field and 23.3 percent from three-point range • The Blue Jays outrebounded the Shoremen, 58-31, including a 33-11 advantage in the first half. JHU's 58 rebounds are the fourth most in school history and are the most since they had 60 at Washington College on February 22, 1975 • In addition, JHU handed out 25 assists – the most in a game since December 1, 2018 – at Washington College (25).
