GETTYSBURG, PA – Senior Carson James scored a game-high 25 points to lead the 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to a 73-44 win over host Gettysburg in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Tuesday night.

It was a close contest early and Hopkins held a two-point lead with 7:42 to play in the first. Sophomore John Windley then drained a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run as the Blue Jays pushed their lead to 11 at the 4:00-mark. Colin Farrell halted the run with a pair of free throws and the teams traded buckets over the next three minutes and JHU led 31-21.

A three-point play by senior Sidney Thybulle, followed by a Windley triple, saw the Blue Jays' lead grow to 16 with 49 ticks on the clock. Rassoul Abakar hit one of two free throws with seven seconds left to make it a 37-22 game at the half.

Senior Ethan Bartlett opened the second with a bucket from downtown and ignited a 12-2 run that saw Hopkins' lead balloon to 25. Junior Will Sykes capped the run with a put-back at 14:40 to put Hopkins up 49-24. The Bullets would get no closer than 20 points over the final 14 minutes. In fact, the Blue Jays would close the game on a 10-2 run to win by 29 points.

James tied his career-high with 25 points, with five three pointers and three steals. Graduate student Tom Quarry scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Windley also finished in double figures, scoring 12 points and pulling down four boards. Carl Schaller led the Bullets with nine points while Elijah Williams had a game-high eight rebounds.

Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, November 27 versus Mary Washington. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 pm at Goldfarb Gym.

Notes: The 44 points are the fewest allowed by Hopkins since an 81-40 win at McDaniel on Feb. 2, 2022 • This is the 14th time under head coach Josh Loeffler that JHU has held an opponent to 49 points or fewer.
