Late Run Propels Men’s Basketball to Win Against Gwynedd Mercy

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a back-and-forth battle in the Manhattanville Tournament, the William Paterson men's basketball team (3-1) used a late fourth-quarter run to secure a 72-65 victory over Gwynedd Mercy (0-4) on Nov. 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Back-to-back 3-pointers by Gwynedd Mercy put the Griffins up by two (65-63) with 3:41 left to play in the game. However, senior Michael Gilmore countered with a three of his own that sparked a 9-0 run to give William Paterson the lead and eventual win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sophomore Neftali Valentin led all William Paterson scorers with 16 points to pair with five rebounds.
  • Junior Shawn Summers Jr. filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds and a team-high six assists.
  • Gilmore finished with 13 points and added five rebounds and three steals to his stat line.
  • Junior Tyreek Montgomery shot 5-of-7 (.714) from the field with a pair of makes from long range en route to scoring 12 points.
