Scots Suffer First Loss of Season in M-Club Classic Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Maryville fell 99-75 to No. 7 ranked Mount Union in the Championship of the M-Club Classic on Saturday night.

The Scots fought hard but were unable to keep the Raiders' offense in check, as Mount Union shot 54 percent (36-for-67) from the field and 46 percent (11-for-24) from behind the 3-point line.

Usually a strength for the Scots, Maryville struggled from beyond the arc in the contest, shooting just 5-for-17 (29 percent) from three.

While shooting 38 percent from the field for the game, Maryville was able to find some consistency in the second half. In the first 20 minutes of play, they scored just 26 points while shooting 10-for-35 (29 percent). In the second half, MC improved to 47 percent (17-for-36) from the field and matched the Raiders' second-half performance, with each team scoring 49 points in the final 20 minutes.

Three of the Scots five 3-pointers came from Charlie Cochran. The senior shot 3-for-4 from deep and led all Maryville scorers with 17 points on his way to All-Tournament honors.

Myles Rasnick and R.J. Simmons were the next high scorers for Maryville, finishing with 13 points apiece.

Rasnick continued to showcase his defensive prowess recording four steals and a blocked shot to go along with team-highs in both rebounds (7) and assists (6).

Simmons scored his 13 points in just eight minutes of play. The freshman made the most of his limited playing time, picking up four rebounds and a steal as well.

The Scots have a week off before traveling to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to participate in the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament. MC plays Keene State on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. before taking on host Wabash on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
